Welcome from the Principal

Message from Jenn Burn

Welcome to the Launceston College website. We are thrilled to have you here and hope that you find our website informative and engaging. At Launceston College, we are proud members of the Athena Learning Trust, a dedicated community of schools committed to providing individuals with the freedom to learn and achieve their full potential.

As a school, our goal is to help young people be happy, successful and responsible by learning the knowledge, skills and values that are important for society. Our college, located in the historic town of Launceston, has a long and proud history dating back to 1409. With a strong presence in the community and many parents and students who have attended the college over the years, we have established a reputation for excellence and a strong sense of community.

We believe that the most vital part of any school is the people who make it what it is. Our students enjoy being here and we have a strong team of staff at the College who are united in encouraging students to work hard, to achieve their best and to respect others. To do this we believe that students need to be fully challenged and supported within a caring environment. We are committed to the pursuit of individual excellence and achievement whilst ensuring that no-one is left behind.

We believe in the education of the whole person and try to provide a range of experiences which promote the spiritual, moral, social and cultural development of our students; we are an “Adventure Learning School” and provide a wide range of adventurous learning opportunities both inside the curriculum and beyond. These include Year 7 and Year 9 residentials, the Duke of Edinburgh Award, and supporting students to take on major challenges including the Ten Tors and the Devizes to Westminster race. Our Performance Academies allow students to take part in a range of sporting, musical and theatrical events. Internationalism is also a key part of our work at the College and we provide opportunities for students to visit and communicate with young people from different cultures and backgrounds.

We are a large College (1400 students) and work hard to be inclusive for all our students, we have an Area Resource Base, (the Castle Unit), on our site for young people with learning difficulties and our Sixth Form has students achieve places at the best universities in the country, including both Oxford and Cambridge. To ensure that we can meet the needs of all of our students we have a wide range of resources and programs available to support them in their learning journey. We encourage you to explore our website to learn more about our school and the work we do.
