Provider Access

Launceston College Provider Access Policy Statement

Introduction

This policy statement sets out Launceston Colleges arrangements for managing the access of providers to pupils at the school for the purpose of giving them information about the provider’s education or training offer. This complies with the school’s legal obligations under Section 42B of the Education Act 1997.

Pupil Entitlement

All pupils in years 8-13 are entitled:

  • Learn more about technical education qualifications and apprenticeship opportunities, as part of a careers programme which informs pupils of the full range of education and training options available to them at each transition point.
  • Hear from a range of local providers about the opportunities on offer, for example, technical education and apprenticeships – this can be achieved through options evenings, assemblies, group discussions, and taster events.
  • Understand how to apply to the full range of academic and technical courses available to them.

Management of Provider Access Requests

A provider wishing to request access should contact our careers lead, Mat Smith, on msmith@launcestoncollege.uk.

Sixth form related requests should be directed to Steve Rush on srush@launcestoncollege.uk.

All general CEIAG enquiries should be directed to dacaster@launcestoncollege.uk.

Opportunities for Access

A number of events, integrated into the school careers programme, will offer providers the opportunity to visit our school to speak to pupils and/or their parents/carers. We believe our careers programme is accessible to all our year groups with key features for careers engagement:

  • Year 7 ‘I love my Job’
  • Enterprise Project
  • Careers Fair
  • Work Experience (year 10 & 12)
  • DWP careers assemblies (year 7, 8 & 9)
  • Army Presentations
  • ASK Assembly
  • CV writing
  • As well as a range of bespoke assemblies and careers presentations

We have focused opportunities targeted at High Achieving and Disadvantaged students with bespoke programmes which you may also wish to consider supporting.

Premises and Facilities

Providers can speak to our careers leader Mat Smith to discuss possible attendance at relevant events.

Once we have approved a provider, we will work with them to identify the best method for providing access to our pupils.

We will make the school hall, classrooms and private meeting rooms available to host discussions between providers and pupils. We will also make presentation equipment, such as projectors and televisions, available to providers.

Providers are welcome to leave a copy of their prospectus or other relevant course literature with the school reception area which is regularly updated and is accessible to all students throughout the school day and for after school activities. All students have email access, and we are willing to send opportunities to targeted students.
