Prospectus

Welcome to the Launceston College Sixth Form Prospectus

Choosing what to study post 16 is an exciting time. This online prospectus offers you the opportunity to preview the courses we currently offer prior to a visit. At Launceston College Sixth Form we offer a range of academic and vocational courses designed to meet the needs of young people in the Launceston area. Our local location prevents you spending hours travelling long distances and gives you more valuable time to focus on studying.

The Sixth Form continues to be the number one post 16 choice for Year 11 students at Launceston College. We also successfully welcome students from other schools into Year 12 every year. We have an established reputation for providing a first class quality educational experience both in the classroom and beyond. The academic results, personal achievements, University successes and career progression of previous Sixth Form students speak for themselves.
Please contact us to arrange a *visit to tour the college campus and meet Sixth Form staff and students. We are happy to organise taster days for students that want to sample life as a Sixth Form student or try out particular subjects.

Which subjects should you study? Courses have entry criteria so your GCSE results will determine what courses are available to you; entry requirements are specified in the individual subject links in the main prospectus. Certain careers will require you to study particular subjects; we will always check at interview that you are studying relevant subjects if you have a certain career in mind. If you don’t have a career in mind then the best advice is to study what you enjoy and what you are good at. You should also think about sensible subject combinations and new subjects that are available to study in the Sixth Form. A level students can study up to 4 subjects in Year 12, but most will choose to study 3. We also offer the Extended Project Qualification to all students and many choose to take up this opportunity in Year 13. Students do not need to confirm their final subject choice until enrolment in September.
This prospectus provides an outline of what we have to offer. Please contact us to arrange a *visit or return an application form and we will invite you into the Sixth Form for an interview and a guided tour of the campus. If you require any extra help or information please do not hesitate to contact us; 01566 771855

A general requirement of 5+ GCSE passes at grade 9-5, including minimum of grade 5 in English and grade 4 in maths, go alongside a general recommendation of at least a GCSE grade 6 in the subjects you wish to study.

Many A level subjects also have specific entry requirements. Please see specific subject information.

Students that just miss the entry requirements may still be accepted onto A level courses with additional support put in place. This will be discussed at the enrolment interview and on a student by student basis

Vocational Pathways in Construction and Professional Cookery

There are no minimum requirements for GCSE grades for vocational courses. Additionally, students with higher grades at GCSE who would prefer to gain a vocational qualification for a specific trade or profession would also be welcome on these courses. However, whichever course you choose, if you have not achieved a Grade 4 or higher in English and/or maths at GCSE you will be required to study these subjects.
